What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a psychological intervention which can assist in the management of problematic thoughts and feelings. Given a complicated back injury and or the need for surgery, a protracted recovery process following an injury or surgery or just living a life which is not what you thought it would be, psychological factors will always contribute to the way pain presents and on our thoughts and feelings. This is normal and it is because we are human beings.
What we are also know is when pain is not resolving as we would like, it can be detrimental on people’s lives. This will affect our mood. Pain can therefore be more difficult to manage if, for example, you are feeling low in mood, frustrated, angry or frightened to move. With the assistance of an experienced and highly specialised psychologist associated with Tasman Spine, time and practice, it is possible reduce the impact that pain has on your thoughts, feelings and mood, prevent your mood from deteriorating and reduce the chances of your outlook stopping you from doing things despite having pain.
